A practical workshop covering Employment Law and all the HR areas that line managers have responsibility for in their day to day work.
This course will give managers the knowledge and skills to deal confidently with HR and employment law issues. The course will be very interactive focussing on the practical application of the organisation’s key HR policies.
What does it cover?
The course will be designed around the organisation’s HR policies and preferences and can cover any of the following areas.
The Equality Act 2010
The nine equality strands
Recognising discrimination: direct and indirect; discrimination by perception or by association, discrimination arising from disability, occupational requirements and positive action
Other key legislation
How to manage right to work, maternity leave, parental leave, domestic leave, flexible working requests, stress at work
Contracts at work: legal considerations
Continuous, fixed term, freelance, casual and flexi-contracts
Dealing with capability issues, sickness absence, misconduct and gross misconduct, dismissal
Harassment and bullying at work
Defining and recognising harassment and bullying
Preventing and/or dealing with overt and covert behaviour
Legal redress/effective ways of managing issues
Grievances and appeals
How to handle grievances effectively
Redundancy at work
The methods available and legal considerations within each
How to manage compulsory selection for redundancy
What will I learn?
By the end of the workshop, managers will be able to
- Understand their role within the organisation’s HR policies
- Implement the organisation’s HR procedures with confidence
- Identify when to act to avoid situations escalating unnecessarily
- Avoid legal pitfalls when dealing with staff HR issues
- Recognise what aspects they can and should deal with alone and when they should request the support of HR.
